Colorado Re-Signs Defensemen Liles, Foote

Denver, CO -- (Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche shored up their backline on Monday, re-signing defensemen John-Michael Liles and Adam Foote.Liles was inked to a four-year deal and Foote was retained on a two-year contract. The 27-year-old Liles led all Avs defenseman last season with 32 points, despite a career-low six goals, over 81 games. He ranked second on the team in power-play points with 20, one behind Paul Stastny, and was third in blocked shots with 121.
A native of Indiana and Michigan State product, Liles heads into his fifth pro season with 44 goals and 159 points over 313 career games -- all with Colorado. Foote returned to the Avalanche in a trade deadline deal from Columbus and recorded one point in 12 regular-season games following the acquisition. He posted one goal and 15 points in 63 games with the Blue Jackets prior to the deal. The 36-year-old rugged defenseman, who was a second round pick of Quebec in 1989, has compiled 65 goals, 284 points and 1.407 penalty minutes in 998 career games in 16 seasons with the Nordiques/Avalanche and Blue Jackets. Along with Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg, Foote was the only other remaining Colorado skater at the end of last season who played for the franchise when it was located in Quebec City.
