Signs At Invesco Taken Down

Custom Banners Touting Barack Obama, DNC Were Not Allowed

A few days before tonight’s speech by Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama, two large custom-made signs custom were installed on either side of Invesco Field -- one touting the candidate and one the Democratic National Convention.

But 7NEWS has learned those signs were removed Tuesday night after a controversy between DNC organizers and the stadium management company.

Invesco officials and the DNC were hesitant to talk about why the custom-made signs, one of which could be seen from the freeway, were taken down.

It took some time just to get an answer from DNC and Obama officials. Three calls were not returned.

Finally, hours later, Jennifer Bachus, a senior advisor for the Obama campaign, called to downplay any dispute.

“Signs go up and signs go down,” Bachus said. "It was a placement error."

Mac Freeman, of the Invesco Stadium Management Group, said the contract with the Democrats allowed only event banners and not campaign specific signs.

"It was one misinstalled sign -- that it's," he said.

However, two signs were taken down and one appears to be an event banner touting the DNC and saying "change you can believe in." It's unclear why that sign was removed.

So the tens of thousands of people, who will be flocking to Invesco to see Obama speak tonight, will not see the $6,000 in custom signage that DNC officials bought for the event.
