Enormous Security Detail In Works For DNC
As Many As 40 Jurisdictions Participating

DENVER -- An estimated 40 front range law enforcement agencies are committed to helping Denver with security during the Democratic National Convention in August.The Aurora Police Department will be sending 300 officers to assist Denver. Aurora is also suspending all vacation time and training during the six day convention.Aurora police spokeswoman, Detective Shannon Lucy, said the officers participating are excited about the opportunity. "It's an historic event. It's democracy in action," said Lucy.
The Lakewood Police Department will be sending 130-135 officers. Lakewood's officers will be working detail in and around the Pepsi Center."It's not every day or every year for that matter that you get to work something that big," said Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis.The Boulder city council will vote Tuesday night on a proposal to send 25 officers. Boulder's officers will provide security at hotels being used by delegates. Boulder will also have two officers working on intelligence and counter terrorism measures.Although outside agencies are beginning to reveal their security plans, the Denver Police Department remains tightlipped about its security detail.The Secret Service is the lead agency for this national security event. The Secret Service said it is up to individual department's what kind of information they choose to disclose.
