State Bloggers Chosen For DNC

DENVER -- Some 55 bloggers have been approved for credentials to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August.The bloggers will be part of what convention planners are calling the "State Blogger Corps."The credentials went to bloggers in each of the 50 states, plus a blogger in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia and one to represent what's called "Democrats Abroad."
Democratic National Party Chairman Howard Dean notified the blogs selected via an online video message available at DemConvention.com."The Internet has played a critical role in connecting Americans to elected officials and candidates seeking office. The DemConvention State Blogger Corps will continue to foster this dialogue -- in all 50 of our states and our territories too -- as we head towards this year's historic election and elect a Democrat to the White House," said In a news release, Dean said.The State Blogger Corps was designed for bloggers covering state and local politics. These bloggers will sit with their respective delegations during the convention.The Colorado blog is SquareState.net. It calls itself a progressive blog for Colorado politics and elections.On the site Wednesday, Aaron Silverstein wrote that "With just over 100 days left before the Democratic National Convention convenes in Denver, Colorado, the Democratic Party is fulfilling on its promise to make this the most inclusive gathering of its kind."He said, "We will be joining bloggers from across the country bringing new eyes, ears, and voices to the final steps in the process of nominating the next President."Democratic officials said more than 400 applications were received from bloggers across the United States and multiple territories.Some of the blogs selected for the State Corps are full-time, professional blogs while others are the work of individuals.Bloggers had to submit daily audience information and provide examples of posts to win a spot on the convention floor.The Democratic National Convention committee will also credential a general blogger pool in the coming weeks.
