POSTED: 4:04 pm MDT July 15, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Colorado Avalanche have signed forwards Cody McCormick and Brian Willsie each to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday.

McCormick, 25, played in 40 games for the Avalanche last season, recording two goals and two assists. Over four seasons in the NHL, all with Colorado, he has appeared in 135 games and has eight goals and 10 assists.

"Cody is a physical forward who plays the game hard every night," Colorado general manager Francois Giguere said.

Willsie returns to Colorado after spending the past two seasons with Los Angeles. Originally the Avalanche's seventh choice (146th overall) in the 1996 Entry Draft, he spent his first three seasons in Colorado then played with Washington in the 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons before heading to Los Angeles.

Last season he tallied four goals and eight assists in 53 games and for his career he has appeared in 334 games and has 51 goals and 53 assists.

"Brian has NHL experience and is familiar with our organization," Giguere said.
