Conklin Gets One-Year Deal With Red Wings

POSTED: 1:36 pm MDT July 1, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Red Wings made a depth move in net Tuesday, agreeing to terms with former Penguins goaltender Ty Conklin on a one-year contract.

Conklin posted an 18-8-5 record with a 2.51 goals-against average and two shutouts for the Eastern Conference champion Pens last season. The New Hampshire product was pressed into service when injuries felled starter Marc- Andre Fleury and second-stringer Dany Sabourin in mid-season.

The 32-year-old has a combined record of 48-32-8 with four ties in 109 games (91 starts) with the Oilers, Blue Jackets, Sabres and Penguins since 2001.

The move was necessary to fill a vacancy due to Dominik Hasek's retirement, which the veteran announced following the Wings' Stanley Cup victory early last month.

Detroit still has playoff savior Chris Osgood and former University of Maine netminder Jimmy Howard under contract.
