Grandfather Faces Sex Assault Charges Involving Step-Daughter

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- A Grand Junction grandfather has been accused of sexually assaulting his step-daughter, but the man's son said the charges are the result of a bitter divorce.Wager Davis, 69, was advised of his rights in a Wednesday court appearance following his arrest the day before.He was advised he is being held for investigation of sexual assault of a child with force, sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust, sexual assault of a child as a pattern of abuse, and kidnapping.
According to an arrest affidavit the incidents allegedly occurred between September 2006, and October 2007, and involved five sexual assaults, when the girl was 8 and 9 years of age.As part of the case, investigators cut two stained sections from a mattress the alleged victim used at the time.Wager Davis was being held on a $500,000 bond because he poses a "significant flight risk," according to prosecutors.His son told the Grand Junction Free Press that the charges are the result of contentious divorce in the family.
