Broomfield Motorcycle Officer Run Off Road

Police Talking To Semi-Truck Driver

POSTED: 6:08 am MDT July 4, 2008

Broomfield police are investigating a crash involving one of their motorcycle officers and a semi-truck.

The officer was traveling northbound on Sheridan Blvd. approaching East 9th Avenue, attempting to catch up to a semi truck and a mini van traveling northbound on Sheridan Blvd., just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The officer reported that the semi truck driver was using his horn and that there was possibly some type of traffic altercation occurring between the two vehicles.

The officer was northbound in the left lane when the semi pulled into the left lane in front of the officer, forcing him into the cement median which divides the north and southbound lanes of Sheridan Blvd. The motorcycle struck the center median and slid into the southbound lanes of Sheridan Blvd. coming to rest just south of East 9th Avenue. The officer was able to radio that he had been involved in an accident and the description of the vehicles he was trying to stop. The semi pulled over north of the accident scene and the driver is assisting with the investigation.

The officer was transported to an area hospital by North Metro Fire Rescue and was treated for a fractured ankle and fractured finger. This case is under investigation and at this time it isn't known if any charges will be filed.

Anyone who may have witnessed this accident or any type of traffic altercation between a red mini-van and semi in the area is asked to call Officer Mike Traudt at 303-438-6400.
