Skier Crashes Into Tree At Keystone Ski Resort, Dies

DENVER -- A 43-year-old Kansas man who was skiing on an intermediate trail at Keystone Ski Resort died Sunday after he slammed into a tree while attempting to stop.Michael Howe, of Andover, Kan., hit the tree with his head and chest while on the Frenchman trail, Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson said.The ski patrol provided life support shortly after being notified of the crash at about 11:15 a.m. Howe was transported to Keystone Medical Center where resuscitation efforts continued. He was pronounced dead at 1:20 p.m. and died from blunt force trauma to the chest, Richardson said.
Howe was in Colorado for the weekend skiing with a friend. He worked for Zep Manufacturing.He was wearing a helmet at the time.
