AURORA, Colo. -- Firefighters are known to perform heroic deeds on the job. But off-duty they do some pretty special things too. This week’s 7Everyday Hero is a star at Children's Hospital.Lt. Nathan (Sparky) Geiger and the Aurora firefighters are no strangers to Children's Hospital. Geiger is among the frequent visitors to Children's. They bring the firefighters down and sit and talk with the kids -- usually bringing them something to help with their stay. Geiger was among the Aurora firefighters who helped when Children's moved from Denver to its new Aurora location.
Like so many Aurora firefighters, when Geiger is not helping people on the job, he's using his own time to give. But he's a little embarrassed by all the attention. To him, it's a privilege to volunteer. He believes it's important to give back to the community and be involved. He wants to set a good example to the kids and his own kids.
